Public Sector Equality Duty Statement
The Linden Centre – Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED) Compliance Statement (Updated June 2025)
At The Linden Centre, we are fully committed to meeting the requirements of the Public Sector Equality Duty as outlined in the Equality Act 2010. We aim to ensure that every member of our school community feels safe, respected, and valued, regardless of their protected characteristics. Our approach is embedded in the culture and ethos of our school, and we continually review and improve our practices.
1. Eliminating Unlawful Discrimination, Harassment and Victimisation
-
We actively challenge discriminatory language, attitudes, and behaviours through a consistent and whole-school approach to behaviour and pastoral support.
-
Policies on behaviour, anti-bullying, safeguarding, and staff conduct are regularly reviewed to ensure alignment with current legislation and best practice.
-
All staff receive regular training on equality, diversity, inclusion, and unconscious bias, ensuring they understand their responsibilities under the Equality Act 2010.
-
We ensure that incidents of discrimination or harassment are recorded, monitored, and responded to promptly and appropriately, following safeguarding protocols where necessary.
2. Advancing Equality of Opportunity
-
We identify and address barriers to learning and participation through individualised support plans, reasonable adjustments, and targeted interventions.
-
Progress and attainment data is carefully monitored by characteristics such as SEND, gender, ethnicity, and socio-economic status to identify and close achievement gaps.
-
Curriculum planning and enrichment opportunities are inclusive, representing a diverse range of backgrounds, cultures, and experiences.
-
Recruitment, promotion, and professional development opportunities are accessible to all staff, with transparent processes and equality monitoring in place.
3. Fostering Good Relations
-
Through our PSHE, RSE, and SMSC programmes, we promote understanding, empathy, and respect for difference across the school community.
-
Our inclusive ethos encourages collaboration, shared celebration of cultural diversity, and positive relationships across all groups.
-
Events such as Black History Month, LGBTQ+ Awareness, Anti-Bullying Week, and Mental Health Awareness campaigns are embedded into the school calendar.
-
We work to break down stereotypes and challenge prejudice through discussion, literature, media, and lived experiences.
4. Consulting and Involving Those Affected
-
We involve students in decision-making through School Council, pupil voice surveys, and structured conversations, including those from underrepresented groups.
-
Parents and carers are consulted regularly through forums, newsletters, individual meetings, and satisfaction surveys, including feedback on policies and procedures.
-
Staff feedback is collected via appraisals, wellbeing checks, and anonymous surveys to inform leadership decision-making.
-
We engage with external agencies and community organisations to ensure our practices reflect the lived experiences and needs of those we serve.
